Magyarul
    1. (1) How old is the Group?
    2. It was registered by the Charity Commission as a UK charity in May 1987.
    1. (2) What does “plusz” mean in your name?
    2. All the activities and programmes which stretch the meaning of a school: nursery and toddler groups, dance, Kodaly music and drama sessions, workshops, trips, concerts, camps… The Hungarian abbreviation also sounds like “elemi”, a Hungarian word meaning elementary, or even something taken for granted. Like we take our little Hungarian island for granted here.
    1. (3) How many families are members of the association?
    2. The membership fluctuates between 30-50 families both in Islington and in Morden.
    1. (4) Why do you have two venues?
    2. In a city the size of London, it is natural that two separate groups developed, one in the North and one in the South of London. These merged in 2006. In an ideal world we could have one venue in the centre of town, so that we could make most of our library and equipments, to say nothing of “human resources” like teachers. This is beyond our means at the moment…
    1. (5) Can we come for a taster?
    2. Anyone is welcome for a trial, and for free! However, please send a message if you are interested as several of our classes are now working to full capacity, so we may not be able to fit you in immediately.
    1. (6) Are your venues owned by the Group?
    2. Both venues are rented. This is an old problem and we wish we had our own building. We could fill it with programs seven days a week!
    1. (7) I cannot come regularly. What should I do?
    2. Please try to make an effort. Both children and parents settle and bond more easily if they come regularly. However, if you really cannot make for good reason, try our “Season Ticket” valid for 4 Saturdays without time limit.
    1. (8) We live a long way away, or are already busy on Saturdays. Do you have any other venues/days?
    2. Language acquisition is based on copying below age 11-ish so learning in a group is more effective for young children. Older children learn languages through analysing, so home tuition and, from about age 14, distant learning may also work for them. These forms of tuition cost more, but we can arrange them for you should you wish so.
    1. (9) Are you following the Hungarian curriculum?
    2. To a small extent and with modifications, yes. But we teach Hungarian as a heritage/ethnic/asset language or as a second language, which is a different cup of tea requiring special methodology. However, we are trying to cram in as much of the Hungarian culture and traditions as reasonably possible in our average 20 Saturdays a year.
    1. (10) We do not speak in Hungarian at home. Is it worth coming to the group for my child?
    2. Try our “MaMI” or Hungarian as a Second Language for Children class in Islington. No previous knowledge of the language is required there.
    1. (11) I am a mature student, may I join your classes?
    2. Yes, but please do not expect a very intensive course, we only meet twice a month after all. If you also have a child studying in our Group, you can learn conversational Hungarian at a reduced fee.
    1. (12) I want to teach in your Group!
    2. Our teachers are volunteers working 2 or 4 hours a fortnight – not enough to live on it. But if you have another job to support yourself and have got some time on your hand to teach, send us your CV and we put you on our register. You will probably be asked to stand in as a supply teacher initially. If everything goes well, we will invite you to join the team when a suitable vacancy comes up. Naturally we can only employ you if you live near one of our venues. Please do not apply from Hungary.
    1. (13) Can you help me find a job in the UK?
    2. Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to do this. You will have to contact an agent. From time to time our families look for a nanny, however, or au-pair, or babysitter, so if you are available for such work, you may want to send us a message and we may be able to match supply and demand.
    1. (14) We are planning to move to the UK and would like to send our child to a Hungarian school. Can you take our child?
    2. Unfortunately we are not what you are looking for. We are a Saturday school organising lessons and other programs for families in Hungarian. There is no Hungarian or Bilingual Hungarian school in the UK, you will have to find other schooling solutions for your child of school age. However, we strongly recommend that, once in this country, you try and bring your child to our Saturday school. Our Hungarian community will help them survive the culture shock and ease their transition to settle in their new English school.
    1. (15) Can you help us choose an English school for our child? How do we apply?
    2. As a first step, check out the www.ofsted.gov.uk website, which provides links to school reports and official publications as well as a FAQ and contact details, including advice about applications. If you come along to our sessions, you can also talk to parents - we cannot possibly know all the schools, but everyone has some story to tell which might be of some use to you.
    1. (16) How can we join your Group?
    2. Just drop in at any of our sessions for a trial and you can enroll there and then. It helps us though to prepare for your reception, and to determine which venue you might be interested in, if you send a message in advance with your names, the children's ages, your address and perhaps a phone number.
    1. (17) I don't like to post information about us on websites/I want to attach documents, can you give me an email address instead?
    2. You may write to lmiplusz@gmail.com (NB the first letter here is a lower case L and not an upper case i!)
    1. (18) Why is there no information about your membership fees on the web?
    2. For practical reasons. The fee is determined by the number of your children and adult learners in your family, the time of your joining, the venue you are going to attend. We may also be able to give you discount. Nobody should be deterred by the fees. We find it easier to discuss these questions in person when you come for your taster session.
