Teachers' Training

Our Teachers' Training on 5 February at the Hungarian Cultural Centre proved to be a pleasant event again.
After watching the documentary "Incubator", Viktória Szabó psychologist tried to help us understand the process our bi(multi)lingual-multi cultural students develop their identities, also the problems our teachers may face in their daily work.
Islington Update
Our next meeting in Islington is on 25 January 2012.
Please note: we moved to a new venue in September 2011. The address with map and other information can be accessed via the "Islington" button in the main menu, at the bottom of the page, following the list of classes.
Classes
We introduced a new class in September by splitting last year's Janikovszky Éva class. The new class is called "Hétvezér" and it is our 7th children's class in Islington. (See under "Islington")
Folk Dance
We have a new Folk Dance Teacher, Panna Herman, who comes with 20 years of experience as a Transylvanian professional dancer and dance teacher.
IT Course
Tamás Tűzkő IT teacher will run an IT Office course for ADULTS in Islington - press the "Continue" button for the dates.
Morden update
Our next sessions in Morden: 18 February, 2012, at the usual venue.

New Class
From September we started a new class for children aged 9 or more called "Világjárók" (Globetrotters) in Morden. We now have 3 school classes for children in Morden!
Waiting Lists
Several of our classes in Morden is full! Please always enquire, eg by sending a Message, before visiting this Group, to avoid disappointment. If you can access our Islington venue reasonably easily, try to come there as, due to our relocation, we can still offer places for all age groups at that venue. If Islington is not an option for you, we can put you on our Morden waiting list.
IT course
Tamás Tűzkő IT teacher ran a 5-session IT Office course for ADULTS in Morden between 30 April and 25 June.
Folk Dance
On the 11th of June 1pm, the H-unique folk dance group was our guests.

The Program:
- You and, of course, good old Mikulás will be entertained by the new and spectacular Christmas story written and performed by our one and only Islington Drama class
- You can ask for a festive face painting, and try your hands in Christmas decorations
- You may enter our Beigli-, Poetry- and Drawing competition - all masterpieces will be exhibited and the best ones will be awarded (only one piece per category, please)*
- At our Christmas Market you may buy festive treats and presents, including “kürtös kalács”prepared in front of your eyes.

Our programs in September
To compliment our regular sessions, we continued our popular walks
On Saturday, 24 September
we invited families to join us on two different walks:
For children of 10 years or older, and of course their families, we organised a trip to the
Eyewitness: Hungarian Photography in the 20th century
exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts.
Children under 10 and their families could join Karolina for a walk to the Vauxhall City Farm.

Team Building Treasure Hunt at the British Museum
Families, young and old, were invited to join our team building game at the British Museum, on the 20th of March, 2pm

March the 15 Performance at the Embassy
Our Drama Group was invited to perform a short program at this year's reception at the Embassy of the Republic of Hungary, in memory of the 1848-1849 Revolution and War of Independence.
On this picture they perform a choreography to the musical version of "Nemzeti dal", a popular poem of our revolutionary poet Sándor Petőfi.

The first issue of our Islington Journalist Club is on the streets!
Written by pupils for children but guaranteed to entertain anyone under 99.

MUSEUM WALKS WITH KAROLINA
Our next Museum Walk is due on 11 March, please take a note of the date. We will go to the British Museum and look out in teams for - what else in 2012? - exhibits connected to the Olympic Games!
Our walks are open to everyone, please feel free to join us. More details to follow.
Our last Walk took us to the MIRO exhibition at TATE MODERN, with our tireless guide, Karolina Koza.

Meeting Mr President

Our Chair talked about our Group, our achivements and our everyday challenges, at a reception for Hungarian President Pál Schmitt, on the 16th of January, hosted by Chargé d'Affaires Klára Breuer-Rudas at the Hungarian Embassy.
On the 7th of May, an even greater honour befell our Group; our chair Edit Zolnai received the Cross of Merit (Gold Grade) of the Republic of Hungary, for her outstanding work for promoting Hungarian language in the UK and organising our Group. Good job, Edit!
Literary Festival
We managed to shake the walls with our performances on the "Sinkovits Imre" Literary Festival, organised by the Federation of Hungarians in the UK on Sunday, the 8th of May 2011, 11 am.
Petra Lávay and Szabina Lávay from our Morden Branch, and Regő Kakas from our Islington Branch performed poems without making any mistakes and with buckets of charm.
Our Islington Drama Class performed a 25 minute play, written and played (including live renditions of well-known Hungarian pop music) by themselves, titled Time Travel in History.
Congratulations children, you made us really proud!
Sekler Gate in London

The Hungarian Reformed Church in the UK will revealed their new Sekler Gate during a celebratory worship on Sunday, the 13th of March, 5pm.
